Victorian Scottish Flame Mahogany Pedestal Desk
 
 
A striking and substantial Victorian Scottish flame mahogany pedestal desk, showcasing particularly attractive figuring to the mahogany and impressive period detailing throughout.
 
 
The desk features a gently sloping gallery back, a generous writing surface and four barley twist columns to the front, creating a particularly decorative architectural appearance. The columns are held securely in position by their dowels and the desk top.
 
 
There are nine drawers in total, all offering useful and surprisingly deep storage. The original-style turned wooden handles match throughout. On the lower drawers to both the left and right sides, there is some breakage and small sections missing around the bases of the handles; however, the handles remain solid and usable.
 
 
The sides are in good overall condition. The writing surface displays various scratches, marks and wear from use, together with a darker area towards the left-hand side. This appears to be very old and is entirely consistent with the age and history of the desk, as shown clearly in the photographs.
 
 
The beautifully figured flame mahogany drawer fronts are a particular feature, with a rich colour and grain that gives the desk considerable presence.
 
 
A wonderful statement piece with plenty of genuine Victorian character – ideal as a traditional writing desk, home-office desk or impressive decorative piece.
