Victorian Mahogany Nursing Chair
Victorian Mahogany Nursing Chair
A fine and elegant Victorian nursing chair, crafted from solid mahogany and displaying attractive carved detailing throughout the frame. The proportions are particularly pleasing, with a gently swept back, well-shaped arms, and a comfortably generous seat, making this both a practical and decorative period piece.
The chair is upholstered in a floral fabric which remains in good overall condition, presenting nicely with good colour and pattern definition. The upholstery shows only light, expected wear commensurate with age, and continues to complement the richness of the mahogany frame very well.
The mahogany itself has developed a warm, deep patina over time, enhancing the carved details and overall presence of the piece. There are some small marks, dings, and surface wear visible here and there, entirely consistent with age and use and adding to the chair’s authentic character. There is also evidence of an old repair to the base of one of the back legs, discreetly reinforced with a metal pin; this appears stable and does not detract from the overall strength or usability of the chair.
The chair stands on four original castors, all of which run smoothly, allowing it to be moved easily. Structurally the chair is solid and sits well, offering both comfort and visual appeal.
A charming and characterful Victorian nursing chair, ideal for a bedroom, reading corner, or traditional interior, and a lovely example of 19th-century craftsmanship.
