A handsome Victorian mahogany secretaire chest of drawers, beautifully enhanced with delicate inlaid detailing and offering both practical storage and a traditional writing bureau. This elegant piece combines classic Victorian craftsmanship with everyday functionality, making it equally suited to a study, hallway, living room or bedroom.
 
 
The chest features three generous drawers with matching original handles, while the top drawer folds down to reveal a fitted secretaire interior with an arrangement of small drawers, pigeonholes and writing compartments. The writing area would benefit from new felt should the bureau be used regularly, allowing it to be easily refreshed to suit the new owner’s taste.
 
 
Constructed in mahogany with attractive inlaid decoration, the chest displays a rich aged patina developed over many years. There is general age-related wear throughout, including lighter areas to the sides, areas of veneer loss to the drawer fronts and edges, and wear consistent with its Victorian age. The rear right leg has had a small supporting piece of timber added to keep it straight; this functions well but could be trimmed or replaced with a more sympathetic repair if desired.
