Very Large Antique Gilt Decorative Picture Frame
An impressive and exceptionally large antique gilt picture frame, with wonderful age, character and presence.
The frame features a broad gold-finished surround with decorative moulded detailing around the inner edge. Its substantial proportions make it a real statement piece, ideal for a large painting or artwork, or potentially for conversion into an impressive wall mirror.
The frame retains an old label to the reverse for Cook & Co., Picture Frame Makers, House Painters and Decorators, 43 Frankfort Street, Plymouth, adding some interesting provenance and helping demonstrate its age.
Condition:
Solid and substantial overall with plenty of genuine age-related character. There are various marks, scuffs, scratches and areas of wear and loss to the gilt finish, particularly around the lower edges and corners, as shown in the photographs.
There is evidence of historic woodworm. This is inactive and the frame has been treated as a precaution.
A wonderfully decorative old frame that could be used exactly as it is for its time-worn appearance or restored if preferred.
