Set of Five French Rococo Style Gilt Dining Chairs
A striking set of five French Rococo-style dining chairs, finished in antique gold with contrasting deep blue upholstered seats and oval upholstered backrests.
The chairs have beautifully decorative frames with sweeping cabriole legs, carved floral and scroll detailing and distinctive oval backs. The combination of the aged gilt finish and rich blue upholstery gives them a wonderfully theatrical appearance, making them equally suited to a dining room, bedroom or as statement occasional chairs.
They are vintage pieces and show obvious age-related wear throughout, particularly to the gilt-painted frames, including rubbing, losses and marks. This contributes to their characterful aged appearance rather than presenting as a pristine finish. The upholstery remains presentable overall, with some signs of use.
There is evidence of historic woodworm which is inactive and has been treated.
Despite the wear, these are a particularly attractive and unusual set with a bold French-inspired look.
