Set of Four Early 20th Century Oak Art Nouveau Dining Chairs
Set of Four Early 20th Century Oak Art Nouveau Dining Chairs
A handsome and characterful set of four Art Nouveau dining chairs, crafted in solid oak and displaying the flowing lines and organic detailing typical of the period. The frames are well proportioned and sturdy, with attractive shaped backs featuring a pierced heart-shaped splat and gently carved crest rails, giving the chairs a strong yet elegant presence.
Each chair retains its original red leather upholstery, with padded seat bases and a smaller upholstered panel to the backrest, finished with decorative buttoned trim and stud detailing. The leather remains intact overall and presents well, showing expected signs of age and use. One chair would benefit from additional wadding to the seat, as shown in the photographs; however, all seats are perfectly usable as they are and retain their original coverings.
The oak frames show a warm, rich tone with visible grain throughout, along with minor surface marks, small scuffs, and age-related wear consistent with genuine period furniture. These signs of use add to the authenticity and charm of the set rather than detract from it. All joints appear solid, making these chairs suitable for everyday use as well as display.
A versatile and decorative set, ideal for an Arts & Crafts or Art Nouveau interior, or as a statement dining set that blends comfortably into both traditional and eclectic settings.
