A particularly handsome and substantial Late Victorian W. J. Mansell Mahogany Carved Sideboard of London, retaining its original maker/dealer plaque.
The plaque is marked “W. J. Mansell, Antique & Modern Furniture, 266 & 268 Fulham Road & 24 Redcliffe Gardens, London S.W.”
The sideboard has an impressive architectural appearance with extensive carved decoration, including scrolling foliate motifs, deeply carved panels and decorative detailing throughout the front.
Offering a generous combination of drawer and cupboard storage, the piece is complemented by attractive brass handles and fittings. The rich mahogany colouring and contrasting carved details give the sideboard considerable presence and character.
Condition: Solid, sturdy and substantial. There are some marks, knocks and general signs of age and previous use here and there, as shown in the photographs and consistent with an antique piece of this age.
The surviving W. J. Mansell London plaque is an especially desirable feature, providing an identifiable connection to the London furniture maker and dealer.
