Large Edwardian Inlaid Walnut Bow Front Display Cabinet
A particularly impressive Edwardian inlaid walnut display cabinet, beautifully proportioned and featuring attractive decorative inlay throughout. With its glazed upper section, richly figured lower cupboard doors and elegant turned supports, this is a substantial statement piece with plenty of period character.
The upper display section features bowed glazed sides and glazed double doors, opening to reveal two fixed shelves, each with decorative inlaid detailing to the front edges. The interior is lined in a soft pink fabric, providing an attractive backdrop for displaying china, glassware, collectables or decorative pieces.
Decorative inlay continues across the cabinet, including the upper frieze and the beautifully figured panels to the lower cupboard doors.
The lower cupboard provides useful concealed storage with an open interior. Beneath this, the cabinet is raised on four elegant turned and carved supports, joined by a shaped lower stretcher shelf.
The cabinet comes complete with a key. The key operates the upper doors correctly. It also operates the lower lock mechanism; however, the lower locking latch does not currently reach sufficiently across to secure the doors, although the doors themselves sit closed correctly.
Condition:
Solid and presentable overall with general marks and signs of age and previous use. There are small superficial chips/losses to the wood at the rear edges of the upper cornice on both the left and right sides. The glass is all in good condition and the upper doors open and close correctly. There is evidence of historic woodworm to the rear. The lower leg structure is relatively delicate in construction, as is typical of this style of cabinet, and care should therefore be taken when moving it.
