Georgian Oak & Mahogany Chest Of Drawers
Georgian Oak & Mahogany Chest Of Drawers
A characterful Georgian chest of drawers, constructed mainly from mahogany with oak used in certain areas, such as one of the legs. This handsome piece has stood the test of time, carrying with it both elegance and history.
The chest comprises five drawers in total — two short over three long — all running smoothly, though with the occasional creak expected from a piece of around 200 years old. The handles are later replacements, as seen from the original handle placements, but they match neatly and complement the design. Each drawer is fitted with a brass keyhole (no key present). The top left drawer bears evidence of an old repair, with a small section in a slightly different shade of mahogany, adding to its story.
Other details include a later replacement back and newer back legs, along with areas of historic worm which have been treated. A split to the right-hand side is visible but stable, adding character without affecting structure. The chest’s top is in sound condition, though with an unusual tone, likely the result of past sanding or refinishing.
