Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Bureau Bookcase
Georgian Mahogany Kneehole Bureau Bookcase
A classic Georgian-style mahogany bureau bookcase of elegant proportions, combining practical storage with traditional craftsmanship. This impressive piece features a two-door glazed-free upper section opening to reveal three adjustable shelves, ideal for books or display.
The fall-front bureau opens to a fitted interior with an arrangement of small drawers, pigeon holes and a central cupboard, offering excellent workspace and storage. Below, the kneehole base is flanked by eight drawers in total, all running smoothly, with a central cupboard incorporating a small internal shelf. The piece also benefits from two pull-out writing supports.
The mahogany has a rich, warm tone with attractive grain throughout, giving the piece a strong period presence suited to both traditional and character interiors.
Condition: In overall solid and usable condition. There are signs of age and use throughout, including general surface wear to the sides and a chip to the top left of the cornice. There is historic woodworm which has been treated. A section of trim is missing to the left-hand door, and there is no key for the bureau fall (keys present for the top section and base cupboard). One small internal drawer is missing its knob. All drawers run well and the structure remains solid.
Summary: A handsome and functional Georgian-style bureau bookcase with plenty of storage and character. A great statement piece offering both practicality and period charm, ready for use or further restoration if desired.
