French Oak Two Door Armoire / Wardrobe
French Carved Oak Two-Door Armoire / Wardrobe
Probably late 19th – early 20th century
A substantial and characterful French armoire, probably dating to the late 19th or early 20th century, constructed in solid oak and featuring deeply carved decorative detail to the door panels. The piece has a strong rustic presence and displays the honest wear and rich patination expected of genuine age.
There is evidence of historic worm, now inactive. The sides are generally sound, with the right-hand side showing signs of an old split and earlier repair near the top; this is stable with no movement and does not affect the integrity of the piece.
The armoire is solid and notably heavy, with both doors designed to lift off for ease of handling. The shaped top section also detaches, making transport and positioning more manageable.
Internally, the wardrobe offers practical storage with a single fixed shelf and a hanging rail positioned below, providing generous vertical hanging space. When viewed from the side, the piece appears to lean slightly backwards; this is consistent with the original design rather than a structural fault.
A robust, timeworn and highly decorative wardrobe, ideal for country house, farmhouse or layered period interiors.

Historic worm (inactive), age-related marks, surface wear and old repairs consistent with period and use. Structurally solid and stable.
