French Carved Oak Two Door Armoire / Wardrobe
French Carved Oak Two-Door Armoire / Wardrobe
Late 19th – Early 20th Century
A substantial and characterful French armoire, beautifully carved in solid oak and dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Richly patinated and full of rustic charm, this piece carries the quiet authority and warmth only genuine age can impart.
The façade is decorated with flowing carved panels and framed by a softly moulded cornice, the surface bearing the knocks, wear and tonal variations that speak to decades of use. These marks are entirely consistent with age and contribute to the wardrobe’s authentic, timeworn appeal (please refer to photographs).
Internally, the armoire offers generous hanging accommodation with a sturdy rail and ample depth, making it as practical as it is decorative. The right-hand door no longer locks and no key is present, while the left-hand door secures internally with a traditional hook fastening.
Solid, heavy and reassuringly robust, this is a piece designed to last for generations. Equally at home in a country house interior, a rustic farmhouse setting or a layered, eclectic space, it makes a striking storage solution and a strong architectural statement.
