Exceptional Aesthetic Movement Mahogany Hall Wardrobe
Exceptional Aesthetic Movement Mahogany Hall Wardrobe with Boxwood & Ebony Inlay, c. 1880
A magnificent Aesthetic Movement mahogany hall wardrobe of superb quality, distinguished by its elegant proportions and refined decorative detail. The central door and flanking panels are richly inlaid with boxwood and ebony, the diamond-form motifs and fine stringing exemplifying the precision craftsmanship of the period. The arched and galleried cresting enhances its architectural presence, lending the piece a distinctly sculptural silhouette.
The mahogany displays a wonderful depth of colour and patina, the surface glowing with the mellow warmth that only time and careful care can produce. Inside, the wardrobe is fitted with a top shelf and hanging rail, offering both function and refinement.
Condition: Very good antique condition overall, with some expected age-related surface marks. There are a few small losses to the inlay on the upper side panels, and the latch is not springing, though the door opens and closes smoothly. These minor imperfections are commensurate with age and do not detract from the piece’s integrity or visual impact.
A highly decorative and impressive wardrobe, resonant of the Aesthetic Movement’s marriage of utility and artistry. This is a statement item of museum-quality design, certain to command attention in the finest of interiors or collections.
