Edwardian Red Walnut Sideboard
 
A substantial Edwardian red walnut sideboard of pleasing proportions and rich colour. The piece is arranged with two drawers to the frieze, fitted with brass handles, over a pair of cupboard doors with matching brass knobs. The cupboard doors are attractively decorated with carved detail, adding visual interest and period charm.
 
Internally, the cupboard is fitted with a single shelf, offering practical storage. The doors are slightly quirky in operation and are best closed together, a characteristic often found in pieces of this age and construction.
 
The top shows evidence that the sideboard would originally have been fitted with a mirror back, indicated by four small, neatly filled holes. The surface and body display a wonderful, well-earned patina, with marks, bumps and scratches consistent with age and use, all of which contribute to its character.
 
Solid and heavy, with a beautiful, warm tone throughout, this sideboard would sit comfortably in a wide range of interiors, from traditional to more eclectic settings.
