Edwardian Mahogany Astral Glazed Bookcase
Edwardian Mahogany Astral Glazed Bookcase
A handsome Edwardian mahogany astragal glazed bookcase, offering an impressive amount of display and storage space while retaining a lovely traditional appearance.
The bookcase separates into two sections for easier transport. The upper section features a moulded cornice with two astragal glazed doors and three adjustable internal shelves. The glazed doors open and close as they should, although the original locking mechanism is missing, so the door simply sits closed.
The lower section has two drawers with brass handles, both running as they should, above a pair of panelled cupboard doors. Unfortunately, there is no key for the lower cupboard. Internally there is a single shelf.
Overall, the mahogany is in good condition for its age with general signs of use and character throughout. There are some small blemishes around the top of the base section and some chipping/wear along the very bottom where it meets the floor, consistent with age.
Underneath the base, a section of timber has previously been added, seemingly to level/support the internal cupboard floor. This is largely concealed in normal use and does not detract from the overall appearance.
A substantial and attractive period bookcase, ideal for displaying books, glassware or collectibles while providing useful concealed storage below.
