19th Century Continental Oak Two Door Wardrobe
19th Century Continental Oak Two Door Wardrobe – Profusely Carved, Probably French (19th Century)
A magnificent example of Continental craftsmanship, this two-door oak wardrobe displays all the elegance and character of late 19th-century French design. Richly carved throughout, the piece features intricate geometric latticework, floral garlands, and beautifully executed foliate motifs to the doors and panels — all rendered in solid oak with a deep, warm patina that only age and use can produce.
The wardrobe offers a single full-length hanging rail internally, ideal for garments or storage, and is fitted with two drawers to the base, each with carved fronts and turned wooden knobs.
As with many French armoires, this piece disassembles completely, making it practical to transport and reassemble upstairs or in tight spaces.
Condition:
In lovely antique condition with marks and bumps consistent with age. Signs of historic woodworm (long inactive and fully treated). The original lock has been removed and replaced with a neat wooden knob; the doors remain securely closed.
A truly handsome and characterful piece, full of French charm and craftsmanship — perfect for a period home, country house interior, or anyone who appreciates timeless furniture with a story to tell.
