17th Century & Later Carved Oak Livery or Hall Cupboard
17th Century & Later Carved Oak Livery or Hall Cupboard
A fine 17th century and later carved oak livery or hall cupboard, richly detailed and full of period character. The design features a gadrooned frieze above a pair of panelled doors carved with lunette, lozenge, and owl motifs, flanked by guilloche-carved uprights terminating in stile feet.
• Material: Solid oak — superbly heavy and well-built
• Interior: Two full-length shelves providing ample storage
• Condition: Displays a deep, warm patina with age-related marks, chips, and surface wear consistent with centuries of use.
• Historic woodworm to the top — long inactive and professionally treated — with visible surface loss as shown in photographs.
The cupboard leans backward very slightly.
Despite its wear, this is a striking and highly decorative piece, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and centuries of history. A statement example of early English furniture, perfectly suited to a country house or refined period interior.
